The promotion of team building principles starts at school level. From their earliest involvement at school, children are encouraged to work together in defiance of selfish principles in order to achieve their goals. But why is this considered so important? The ego within the business community is the most powerful, and often the most destructive force. Achievements made individually are perceived not as successes but as threats to others. Therefore it follows that the only truly uplifting success of a company is achieved when is is realised by the whole team. If the team can be made responsible for their own successes, and maybe even their own pay increases, the motivational impetus to improve performance is increased, and company successes are reflected in an increased optimism and confidence shared amongst the workforce. Team-building also helps define work roles in the relaxed and unpressured environment of a situation where successes and failures are less critical than at work. Company employees or managerial teams are not forced into rivalry but into working together to produce an end product - with each contribution valued in its own way. This is a particular strength of the recording studio session created by the Beehouse, in that it is not a particularly competitive experience, but more one where everyone lends their own particular "voice" to the end product. This makes it suitable not only for staff training, but also for hen parties, stag nights and other less formal occasions, where input is valued from everyone. |
